Data Transparency - How do we count cases of suppression?

We receive reports of censorship via our Report an Incident Form. Here, we collect various information and data about each case, including the region the account is administered from. For each incident reported, one case of censorship is documented.

For example, if we receive a report that an account has been shadowbanned on Instagram and TikTok, we record x2 cases of censorship. If x3 separate accounts have been banned on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads, we record a total of nine cases of censorship.

If an account is administered solely from one country, we map the account to this location, and it will then appear as a datapoint on the interactive map above. Some accounts are regional or administered by international teams. If this is the case, accounts are logged accordingly as ‘European’, ‘International’, or similar. These cases are not logged on the visual map, but are listed in the ‘Locations’ overview, below the map.
